Matt Cavanaugh has worked the last four seasons as a coach with the Westbrook High School Boys Lacrosse program.
In 2015, he helped hone the offensive skills of three SMAA All-Conference selections - Curtis Knapton, Noah Oliver, and Grayson Post. In 2016, Cavanaugh helped guide the Blue Blazes to the best season in school history, when they finished 9-3, ranked second overall in Heal Points, and won a home playoff game for the first time ever. Under his tutelage, Knapton was named SMAA Player of the Year.
Cavanaugh also has club coaching experience with Rocky Coast Lacrosse.
A graduate of Westbrook High School, he played collegiately at Colby Sawyer College in New London, NH.
His assistant for the 2017-18 indoor season will be Eric Gilbert of Gray-New Gloucester.

About the River Rats: The River Rats organization was formed in 2013 by two individuals, Jason Lariviere and Scott Hamilton, who shared common goals, interests, and a love of sports. They talked about their desire to do MORE for the local community, both on and off the fields, and to stress academics as much as athletics.
The key focus of the organization is to provide instruction for kids of all ages and skill levels by running instructional clinics and training sessions in a friendly, productive, and organized environment. The River Rats also cater to the more talented and competitive athletes by playing against top-notch talent and teams all over the Northeast. They currently offer baseball, softball, and lacrosse programs.
