We are committed to providing our high school baseball and softball athletes with the exposure/support needed to take their game to the next level.  Since we only select a few teams to participate at the Showcase level, we can provide one-on-one support for each athlete to ensure they have a good plan for exposure.  We have some of the best resources and coaches to provide this to our athletes at one of the most important times of their sports career;

• Colton Lawrence:  SM River Rats Showcase Director.  Colton works with the Showcase and Youth level teams and is the General Manager of Hitters Count Training Facility
• Jason Lariviere:  SM River Rats Director of Baseball Operations, Head Varsity Coach at Thornton Academy, former Professional Baseball Player.

The Southern Maine River Rats has a history of having the best winter training program in the region!  We firmly believe that starting our training in January and going for 3 months while having 2-3 practices per week is the BEST way to develop our players!   Some organizations start in November but only practice 1x/week with very little focus on fundamentals. 

The SM River Rats have 3 practices per week focusing on very specific  baseball and softball activities.  They have a hitting practice which goes for 60 minutes with all sessions having a purpose and key focus.  This is led by our founder and former professional baseball player, Jason Lariviere.  Each team also has a pitchers & catchers session which lasts between 60-90 minutes with specific focus on form/technique, the mental part of the position and much much more.  Lastly, each team will have a team practice where the focus is on skill development and team driven activities (first and third coverage, bunt plays, baserunning, etc.). 

The outcome of our regimented winter training is that our teams have been VERY success on the field of play!  Our baseball organization competes in the New Balance Select League, which is the top travel league in New England.  To visit the NB Select Counter Website, click the link below;

Our softball program is going on 5 years old and they have quickly gathered some of the best talent in Maine!  They have won numerous tournaments and we are confident there will be more to come on the softball end!
