The Southern Maine River Rats offers competitive spring and fall travel baseball teams!  Our philosophy is pretty simple;

• Only roster the amount of kids you need to encourage growth and development.
• Play as many games as possible.
• Teach kids baseball and life skills needed to be successfull. 

Our first travel season was in the Spring of 2014 in which we had 8 teams!   We had a huge response and were able to provide the type of experience that encouraged teamwork, dedication and most of all, hard work. Now heading into the 2023 season we carry over 20+ teams!!

We play in the New Balance Select League which carries the best talent in New England!  This league is very organized and has a great staff who run it.  We couldn't be more happy with this league and what it has to offer our players, parents and coaches. Each team will join 1-2 tournaments either before or after the season. 

Our winter training consists of 30 indoor practices starting in January of every year.   No other baseball organization in Maine has more winter training than us.  

Our 9U-12U teams will play double headers on Sundays during the majority of the season.   However, they may play on Saturdays in early April when town league games have not started.   There is also a possibility that play-offs (early June) will have Saturday games.  These teams will play between 20-30 games throughout the year. 

Our 13U-14U teams will play double headers on Saturdays and/or Sundays from early April until mid July.   They will play a total of 30-40 games during the season.  

Our 15U season will winter train just like the other teams however will have a delayed start to the season.   The 15U team will start games in early June once school baseball is completed but will play doubleheaders on both Saturdays and Sundays until mid-July.  This will be a very intense 6 week period of baseball and it is expected that players attend these games over any local league games (Legion, Babe Ruth, etc.)
